Looking for a Shag Original?
It is over twenty years since Josh Agle’s first exhibition so you might expect to see a multitude of original artwork up for sale. Surprisingly, you would be wrong. There are just forty-one original paintings currently available across seven galleries, two Facebook Groups and eBay. To be honest, this was a lot higher than I expected when first putting this post together. I have put together this post at the end of November 2018 to show the range of original paintings available at this point in time.
The Shag Store
The Shag Store in Palm Springs has the 24″ by 17″ painting The Human Fly for sale at US$13,999. The artwork was originally shown at the 2009 M Modern exhibition A Broken Promise of the Flying Car.
L’Imagerie Gallery
The L’Imagerie Gallery in North Hollywood, California has seven original Shag paintings available:
+ Death’s Unending Vacation (20″ x 14″) from 2001 – US$12,000

The Outré Gallery in Melbourne has three original artworks up for sale:
+ Arachne and the Warrior – a 19″ by 23″ painting from 2004, for sale at US$5,781 (Australian – AU$8,000). The artwork was originally shown at the 2004 Outré Gallery exhibition Heroes and Monsters.
+ Terrestrial Tiki – a painting from the 1997 Cacao coffee house show in Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles. The artwork is for sale at US$3,300 (Australian – AU$5,000).
+ Satan’s Bachelor Pad – a painting from 1998 for sale at US$6,260 (Australian – AU$9,500).

The Jonathan Levine Gallery in Jersey City has twelve artworks for sale:

La Fiambrera Art Gallery
Madrid’s La Fiambrera Art Gallery is Shag’s official gallery in Spain and they have three original Shag artworks for sale:
+ The Phrenology Student – This 20” by 16” painting is from La Fiambrera’s 2016 Drinking Spree Exhibition. Note that it was originally shown in M Modern’s 2009 The Last Days of Magic Exhibition.
+ Pink Lady – This 11” by 9” painting is also from La Fiambrera’s 2016 Drinking Spree Exhibition.
+ Smash It Up – British punk band The Damned feature in this 11.5” by 8” painting from La Fiambrera’s 2017 Punk exhibition. It retails for US$4,310 (Spain – €3,800).
Facebook Group: The Artist Shag @ Josh Agle Unauthorised
The 10″ x 13″ painting Black Kitten in Orange was originally exhibited at Corey Helford Gallery’s 2012 Animal Kingdom exhibition. The original story text for this painting was “It’s midnight. She has been waiting for her lover to arrive since 7:00. Even if he doesn’t get there until 1:00 am, the wait will be worth it. He’s getting takeout at Umami.“. The artwork is listed on the The Artist Shag @ Josh Agle Unauthorised Facebook group with an asking price of US$6,500.
The 33.5″ by 14.5″ painting Welcome to Your New Lifestyle is listed on the The Artist Shag @ Josh Agle Unauthorised Facebook group. The picture was originally exhibited at the 2007 Mid Century Modern Group Show at the Outré Gallery in Melbourne.

The 8″ by 8″ painting The Boring Beetle is listed on the Shagwatch: Josh Agle Fan Page Facebook group at US$2,500. The picture was originally exhibited at the 2010 Red Star Black Eye Exhibition at the Rotofugi Gallery in Chicago.
eBay
There are a couple of original Shag paintings presently available on eBay.
The first is the painting Shrine Zor Defies the Gates of Hell from 1999 which has a starting bid of US$6,500 and a buy it now of US$8,500.
The second is the 29.5″ by 23.6″ painting The Fish Monger, originally from the DC Gallery Palm Springs, with a starting bid of US$11,588 (UK – £9,000).
