The Call of Kapu Exhibition
Shockingly, there have only ever been two exhibitions including Josh Agle’s paintings in the whole of the United Kingdom ever! Art from the New World was a group exhibition staged at Bristol’s City Museum and Art Gallery during 2010 which included the painting I Author My Own Disaster.
The focus of this post is The Call of Kapu solo exhibition which was held six years earlier at the Apart Gallery in London from October 27th to November 7th 2004. It would be great to see another show in London soon but until then…
The artist cocktail reception, sponsored by Havana Club rum, ran from 7pm to 9pm on October 27th and 28th with drinks afterward from 9pm to 12pm at the nearby Trailer Happiness Lounge. There were eight new acrylic and vinyl paint on panel original paintings at the Call of Kapu Exhibition.
An exclusive show print set of the Hu-Hula 1 and Hu-Hula 2 originals (above) was produced for the Call of Kapu exhibition. Each image of the nine-color serigraph set measures 10″ by 15″ and is hand signed and numbered. The two-print Hu-Hula 1 and Hu-Hula 2 set was produced in a limited-edition of 250 copies (plus 15 artist proofs). Note that unlike the originals, each print image appears as an oval on white paper (below right) and is not matted.
In addition to the eight original paintings and show print set, the Call of Kapu exhibition included twenty-two artist proofs of previously sold out limited-edition prints.
