The Birds and the Beasts Exhibition
Josh Agle returned to Australia in 2008 for The Birds and the Beasts exhibition tour with the Outré Gallery.
This was the sixth collection created especially for the Australian audience and toured Australia with the following three venues:
- Perth: The exhibition launched at the Breadbox Gallery in Northbridge on Friday 28th March followed by a cocktail party with Shag on Friday 4th April. Shag stayed for a book signing on Saturday 5th April and the exhibition ran in Perth to the 13th April.
- Melbourne: The Outré Gallery in Melbourne was the second site for the exhibition tour with a launch event on Friday 11th April. Shag was in attendance for a book signing on Saturday 12th April, and the exhibition ran in Melbourne until the 6th May.
- Sydney: The Outré Gallery in Darlinghurst was the final tour destination with the exhibition opening on Friday 18th April. Shag attended a book signing on Saturday 19th April and the exhibition in Sydney ran until the 11th May.
The Birds and the Beasts exhibition featured thirty-two original paintings including fifteen smaller 8” by 10” images and one of the largest at 72” by 26”. There was also a new print called Welcome to our Glorious Lifestyle along with a good selection of limited edition prints, some of which being rarer artist proofs. With the three sites of the exhibition running partially in parallel and the need to provide new paintings to be fair to each, the original works were split between the cities.
Perth
The Birds and the Beasts exhibition at the Breadbox Gallery in Perth included nine original acrylic on panel paintings plus a number of limited edition prints (many being artist proofs).
The Birds and the Beasts exhibition in Perth was intelligently presented as seen in the photographs below with Shag signing his work for guests.
Sydney
The Birds and the Beasts exhibition at the Outré Gallery in Sydney included nine original acrylic on panel paintings plus a number of limited edition prints (many being artist proofs).
Melbourne
The Birds and the Beasts exhibition at the Outré Gallery in Melbourne included fourteen original acrylic on panel paintings plus a number of limited edition prints (many being artist proofs).
A new print was produced for the Birds and the Beasts exhibition, Welcome To Our Glorious Lifestyle measures 53″ by 21″ and was produced as a twenty-three color serigraph print in a signed and numbered limited edition of 150 copies. For reference, the original acrylic on canvas painting Welcome to our Glorious Lifestyle measured an enormous 96” by 35” and was sold at the 2007 Conspicuous Consumption exhibition for $36,000 USD.
