Moon Over Madrid Fiesta
La Fiambrera Art Gallery, Madrid, Spain – November 23-January 25, 2025
The Moon Over Madrid Fiesta exhibition at La Fambrera Art Gallery in Madrid, Spain features 30 prints selected to show the funnier and more hedonistic side of Shag’s back catalogue. All are limited edition prints, numbered and signed by Josh Agle. The exhibition print is “Moon Over Madrid” with the following gallery summary – “The tray of the hostess is presented with the finest Iberian ham and Manchego cheese with musical accompaniment by a guitar player, clearly indicating that this “fiesta” is occurring in Spain. Those more familiar with the terrain will notice that this particular get-together is taking place in Madrid where the La Fiambrera Art Gallery is located, as two of the most emblematic buildings of the best-known street in the Spanish capital, Gran Vía, are visible through the apartment windows.”
DesignerCon 2024
The Expo at World Market Center, Las Vegas – November 15-17
DesignerCon is an annual art and design convention that smashes together collectible toys, customs, plush, designer apparel and so much more with urban, underground and pop art! They are a celebration of all aspects from the world of design. More importantly, for us, it features the work of Josh Agle at the Shag Store booth including a new print (“New York 2263”) and four wooden tiki cats. Shag was present each day for signings
Modernism Week
The Shag House, Palm Springs, California – October 24-27
The Modernism Week features several home tours of The Shag House on every day from Thursday 24th October to Sunday 27th October. There is also a Mammoth Martini Party at The Shag House on Friday 25th October and a Caftan Soiree on Saturday 26th October. The event features the release of the newest print and the limited edition Ku-Kua sculpture.
D23 Expo
Anaheim Convention Center, Anaheim, California – August 9-11
The “When the Full Moon Starts to Climb” serigraph was designed by Shag and manufactured by the Cyclops Print Works for Disney Fine Art. The 39″ by 24″ 15-color serigraph was produced in a green moon edition (175 copies) for D23 and a blue moon edition (175 copies) for The Shag Store. Disney Fine Arts/Cyclops Print Works was at booth 3600 in Hall C at D23’s Anaheim Convention Center from August 9-11. Shag attended a signing at 2 pm on Friday, August 9.
2024 Comic-Con International: San Diego
San Diego Convention Center, San Diego, California – July 25-28
The Shag Store had an impressive booth at the 2024 Comic-Con International event in San Diego, California from 25-28 July. The new releases for SDCC’24 were the 42″ by 24″ 16-color serigraph “Impassible Things” (LE200, $700 show price) and the six 5″ x 7″ fine art prints on wood “Birds of Wonderland” (LE200 each, $100 each show price).
Atomic Tiki Bazaar #6
Max’s South Sea Hideaway, Grand Rapids, Michigan – July 14
The Atomic Tiki Bazaar #6 event was held at Max’s South Sea Hideaway from 12pm to 6pm on Sunday, July 14. The 20oz Deep Sea Tapairu Dwellers mug was released at 3pm and is a colorway of the Smuggler’s Cover Tapairu mug released by Max’s Ceramic Studio in November 2023. The limited edition of 30 mugs features a special glaze design and retailed for $250. The name is a homage to ancient tapairu water faeries. The mug sales were limited to one per attendee.
Bottoms Up Midcentury Barware Show
Gay Fad Studios, Lancaster, Ohio – June 21-23
Gay Fad Studios held its Bottoms Up Midcentury BarwareShow from 21-23 June 2024 in downtown Lancaster, Ohio. The event included a pop-up Shag Store on the Saturday and Sunday with Shag giving a presentation covering his art and love affair with the cocktail on Saturday. The print for the event was “Chin Chin”, a five-color serigraph available in two variants with metallic ink and spot varnish.
Johnny Ramone Tribute Pulp Fiction 30th Anniversary Delux Screening
Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Los Angeles, California – June 2
The 2024 Johny Ramone Tribute celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Pulp Fiction and was presented by John Travolta. The Cretin Commandos played live and featured Tim Armstrong, Fred Armisen, Billy Idol and CJ Ramone. Gates opened at 6pm for a 7:15pm set by the Credit Commandos, followed by Pulp Fiction at 8:30pm. Shag produced a cropped and edited version of the “You Never Can Tell” print called “Mia and Vincent”, as signed by Shag and John Travolta, to support the Ramone Foundation. The print measures 30.5″ by 38″, is in a limited archival edition of 20, and retailed for $2500 framed.
Caliente Tropics 60th Anniversary Mug Release Party
Sancho’s Restaurant, Palm Springs, California – May 4
The Caliente Tropics 60th Anniversary Mug was released in Sancho’s Restaurant lounge from 13:30-14:30 on Saturday, May 4. This orange colorway (in a limited edition size of 175) retailed for $175 and was limited to one per person. The mug is based on the original matchbook from the Tropics Motel, which had a torch sticking out of the side of the Bumatay-style tiki in the illustration. Each mug has a special matchbook doubling as a certificate of authenticity. (note – the blue colorway of the Caliente Tropics 60th Anniversary mug will retail later). The mug measured 9.25″ tall/4.5″ wide (including the “Tiki Torch” extension)/2.25″ x 2.25″ base.
In Mod We Trust
Community Church, Palm Springs, California – February 17
PS ModCom’s Annual Fundraiser “In Mod We Trust” was held at the former Community Church from 7-10 pm on Saturday, February 17. The mid-century modern masterpiece was designed in 1960 by renowned architect Philmer J. Ellerbroek and was the recipient of the 2023 Adaptive Reuse award by the Palm Springs Modern Committee.
Tickets to the cocktail party with live music, DJ David J (Bauhaus and Love + Rockets), and hors d’oeuvres were $200 with attendees receiving the commissioned Shag print “The Church”. Shag is attending the fundraising event which is for ages 21+.
