Josh Agle exhibited at twenty-one group shows during 2016, including one held in Madrid, Spain. Three are covered in other posts:

LA Art Show 2016
The achingly trendy LA Art Show at the Los Angeles Convention Center ran from the 27th to 31st January 2016 and included a booth from the Gregorio Escalante Gallery. The gallery showed the Josh Agle acrylic on panel original painting The Orange Floor which measures 24″ by 13″ and was priced at $10,500 USD.



Modernism Week 2016
The 2016 Palm Springs Modernism Week ran from the 11th to the 21st February in 2016. From 8 to 11 pm on Friday 12th February, Shag hosted a special cocktail party Palm Springs Polynesia: Then & Now at the Caliente Tropics Resort with tickets available for $125 USD. Guests received a souvenir passport designed by Shag. The poolside party was sponsored by Sailor Jerry’s Rum and included live music from The Martini Kings (with Coco), DJ Baz, hors-d’oeuvres, and specialty drinks by Tonga Hut and Bootlegger Tiki. The exclusive signed and numbered wooden postcard for the event (showing part of the Palm Spring Polynesia painting) is shown below.

Mad About Mid-Century: Tribute To Eames
The Mad About Mid-Century: Tribute to Eames exhibition celebrates the legacy of designers Charles and Ray Eames. The group show was held at Gallery Nucleus in Alhambra, Los Angeles and ran from March 19th to April 3rd, 2016. Over twenty artists took part, including Josh Agle who showed the acrylic on panel original painting Before the Deluge (sized 26” by 24”, cost $14,000 USD).

Harveys Artist Showcase and Signing
Disneyland Resort held an artist showcase and signing at the Wonderground Gallery in the Downtown Disney District from 3pm to 5pm on Saturday, 21st May 2016 with Josh Agle, and Dana and Melanie Harvey. Shag’s painting A Wretched Hive was available as a wrap (limited edition of 95 at US$895), framed gicleé on canvas (limited edition of 195 at US$495), gicleé on canvas (limited edition of 295 at US$195), and deluxe print – left and right (open). Also produced were a Disney Harveys Star Wars Cantina Streamline Tote Bag, Hip Pack, and Wallet Billfold.

Art Gathering
The group exhibition Art Gathering was held aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, California from the 2nd to the 5th of June 2016. The giant indie art fair and tattoo convention included six galleries and over one hundred independent artists. The Gregorio Escalante Gallery included the Shag’s acrylic on panel original painting The Orange Floor which measures 24″ by 13″ and was priced at $10,500 USD. The La Luz de Jesus showed the Shag original acrylic on panel painting Carne de Amore (The Meat of Love) which shows a (stylized) framed picture being held up of popular lowbrow artist Robert Williams’ painting of the same name.

Hukilau 2016
The Hukilau celebrated its 15th anniversary from the 8th to the 12th of June 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 and Mai-Kai Restaurant (which both celebrated their own 60th anniversary). Shag hosted two events, Shag’s SkyLounge and Shag Symposium.

The Shag’s SkyLounge event at the iconic 17th floor rotating Pier Top Lounge at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66 in New York City was held from 10pm until 12am on Thursday 9th June 2016. Music was supplied by DJ Xerox ad the ape-costumed The Disasternauts. The costume contest was “Dress as your favorite Shag character” which led to an eclectic crowd with several wearing light-shades as hats (from Eight Shades of Drunk). The ticket price of $49 USD included unlimited cocktails.

Shag also presented a symposium titled I Learned my ABC’s in Waikiki about growing up in Hawaii. Tickets were available for $25 USD for the symposium which was held on at 12pm on Friday the 10thJune.

Shag also produced merchandise for the event including a print (which he signed at 5:30pm on Friday the 10th June), glasses, mats, etc.

Grand Opening: Matthew Namour Gallery
The Grand Opening of the Matthew Namour Gallery in Montréal, Québec, Canada took place from June 29th to August 28th 2016. The gallery focuses on lowbrow and street art and invited more than twenty-five artists to this inaugural show. Josh Agle’s contribution to the exhibition was the acrylic on panel original painting Son of the Morning, which is sized 22” by 12”.


Poster Pop Collection
The La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles held The Poster Pop Collection show from July 1st to the 31st, 2015. The exhibition included over 120 works from artists working in the varied poster pop genres of tiki, Hawaiiana, alternative, and hotrod. There were three Josh Agle original paintings shown during the exhibition. The first is his 1997 painting Religious Icon #2 (10″ by 22″, original cost $1,000 USD) which was originally shown at the Anatomy of a Swinger exhibition in 1998. Shag’s small paintings Foamy Cocktail and Purple Potable (cel vinyl on canvas, 6″ by 6″, $12,000 USD) from the 2007 show Conspicuous Consumption were also shown.

FRUIT
The FRUIT group art exhibition was held at the La-La Land Gallery in Santa Monica Boulevard, Los Angeles, California from 7pm to 10pm on Thursday, July 21st to August 21st 2006. Twenty-one artists were included in the show including Josh Agle who contributed the original painting Maracuja. The reception offered a fruit stand, DJ, and complimentary drinks.

Johnny Ramone Tribute 2016 – Celebrating 40 Years of the Ramones!
The annual Johnny Ramone Tribute event was held at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, California at 6:30pm on Sunday, Jul 24th 2016. Tickets cost $20 USD, $18 USD pre-sale to June 5th, or $25 USD on the gate. Linda Ramone presented the tribute which included cult films, horror movies, collectibles and rock n’ roll. Shag produced the poster for the event based on the Summer of ’76 Ramone’s painting (see 20 Years Under the Influence of Juxtapoz post).

Tiki Oasis 2016
Josh Agle attended Tiki Oasis 2016 and exhibited at the Crown Plaza Hotel conference center lobby on Saturday 20th August 2016 from 11am to 12:30pm. The three-color Waiting for Otto serigraph print was released at the event in a limited edition of 100 copies with a retail cost of $80 USD.


This is a Limited Edition
This is a Limited Edition was a group exhibition at Gregorio Escalante Gallery in Los Angeles from August 27th to September 25th 2016. Josh Agle’s acrylic on panel original painting The Orange Floor (sized 24″ by 13″) was shown with a list price at $10,500 USD. Note that the painting had already been shown by the Gregorio Escalante Gallery at the two earlier shows LA Art Show 2016 and Art Gathering.

11th Annual BLAB! Show
The 11th Annual BLAB! Show at the Copro Gallery in Santa Monica, California ran from September 1st to October 1st 2016. This group exhibition of over 50 artists who contributed to the BLAB World #2 book included Josh Agle whose acrylic paint on panel original painting The Artisan (measuring 19” by 19”) was priced at $9,000 USD. Note that the painting was exhibited at the eighth annual BLAB! show in 2012.

Crime on Canvas
The Crime on Canvas exhibition from the 23rd to the 25th of September 2016 was part of the Life is Beautiful Festival. This group exhibition, curated by M Modern Gallery, was held at the Western Hotel in downtown Las Vegas and includes over ninety artists. Shag contributed It’s All Over Now, an acrylic on panel original painting of a fist fight at a Rolling Stones concert. Shag notes “My painting is set in the middle of a fight during a music concert, so I was trying to tie together the themes of music, crime, and art”. The second acrylic on panel original painting shown was 995 Skyline Drive, launched the previous month as a print at Shag the Store.

Salut!
The grand opening of Gallery Nucleus Portland in SE Hawthorne Boulevard, Portland, Oregon was celebrated with a coaster art exhibition called Salut! The group art exhibition of over 100 artists was held from the 8th October to 8th November 2016. The opening night reception on Saturday 8th October 2016 was held from 6pm to 10pm and featured a limited edition print release by Timber! plus local craft beers, music and food. Artists were asked to use durable 4-inch coasters to create unique artworks, each priced at $50 USD. Shag’s 4” by 4” coaster was named Still Life with Martini and sold for $50 USD.

Greater Palm Springs Pride
The Greater Palm Springs Pride event was held from the 4th to the 6th November 2016. Josh Agle produced the fundraising poster for the LGBT community event. The poster measures 18” by 24” and was produced in an unsigned open edition for $24.99 USD.

A Conversation with Friends
The Juxtapoz Clubhouse artist retreat and exhibition space opened at the Mana Convention centre in Miami’s Wynwood District in 2016. The first group exhibition, A Conversation with Friends, was curated by Mana Urban Arts Project and the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, and ran from November 30th to December 4th, 2016. The project celebrated contemporary art, showcasing its diverse genres. Shag supplied four large acrylic on canvas paintings plus four smaller acrylic and ink-on-paper originals.

Capital Sin (Pecado Capital)
The exhibition Capital Sin ran at the La Fiambrera Art Gallery in Madrid, Spain. The group show of more than twenty artists ran from December 16th 2016 to January 28th 2017. As an investigation of the seven deadly sins, Shag’s acrylic on panel orginal painting The Icecream Agent appears under the sin ‘Envy’. Shag’s painting sold during the exhibition.
