Sultry Evenings Exhibition

The Sultry Evenings exhibition was held at the M Modern Gallery in Palm Springs, California from May 9th to June 2nd 2003. This solo exhibition of Josh Agle’s work opened on Friday May 9th with an artist reception and booksigning from 7pm to 9pm. The show of rare artist proof prints (plus tiki glasses, mugs, and a handbag) was run in conjunction with Tiki Oasis 3.


The exclusive show print for the Sultry Evenings exhibition is titled Palm Springs After Dark and measures 38″ by 17″. The twelve-color serigraph was hand signed and numbered in a limited edition of 300 (plus 25 artist proofs). The retail cost of the Palm Springs After Dark print was $300 USD.


The twenty-one limited edition prints shown at the Sultry Evenings exhibition were all rare artist proofs of sold-out limited edition serigraphs.

The Sultry Evenings exhibition also included a tiki mug set, tiki shot glass set, and Paul Frank handbag collaboration.

An artist proof Shag tiki mug set (number 9 of 25) from 2000 was sold at the exhibition. From left to right (below): Ku Ku Kana Purple – First Edition, Tall Ratongo Orange – First Edition, Short Ratongo Blue – First Edition, Kapu-Kapu Tiki Mug – Koa Brown, and Tunga-Toa Koa Brown – First Edition.

The 2002 Four Tips Gods Shot Glass Set includes the glasses Sip, Swig, Swill & Swallow along with a mini print with four drink recipes on the reverse. This original limited edition consisted of one hundred sets, this artist proof is number nine of the fifteen made.

Shag collaborated with artist Paul Frank to create a vinyl handbag for the Japanese market. This Collaboration London Bag included characters Julias and Rita on the image. The bag was released in a limited edition of 350 copies with an original cost of $295 USD at the 2001 Dangerous Women exhibition in Japan. This handbag for sale at the Sultry Evenings exhibition was a rare artist proof.
