Welcome to Palm Springs

Josh Agle painted Welcome to Palm Springs in 2010. The acrylic and vinyl paint on panel original painting features a happy couple in sunglasses driving a red Studebaker Avanti convertible. The scene includes a Welcome to Palm Springs road sign, palm trees, cacti, wind turbines and a roadrunner. The popular image from the original painting has been reused across several Shag items over the past seven years as shown in this post.

Welcome to Palm Springs Print
The corresponding print was released in February 2011 as an eleven-color serigraph measuring 24″ by 17″. The pre-release cost was US$200 with the final retail price rising to US$350. The print was produced in a limited edition of 175 copies plus 30 artist proofs. It is hand signed and numbered, and is supplied with a certificate of authenticity.

Welcome to Palm Springs  Postcard
A 2011 postcard used the same image to advertize the Shag Store in Palm Springs. The postcard was available free to visitors of the Shag Store.

Welcome to Palm Springs Throw Pillow
The throw pillow measures 21” by 14”, retails for US$99, and is made in the USA. The pillow outside is 100% polyester material with dye sublimated and embroidered graphics with the inside being twenty-ounce 100% blown fiber fill.

Welcome to Palm Springs Wristwatch
The Welcome to Palm Springs wristwatch was released at Tiki Oasis in 2012. It was produced by Vannen in a limited edition of 99 and retailed for US$110.

Welcome to Palm Springs Harveys Seatbelt Purse
In July 2014, Harveys collaborated with Shag to design a Welcome to Palm Springs purse. The bag, excluding straps, measures 13″ wide by 9″ high by 4″ deep and has four metal feet. The purse is made in the USA and retailed for US$124.

Welcome to Palm Springs Lamp
The Welcome to Palm Springs Lamp was released in February 2016. The lamp has a lucite base with a graphic shade and measures 21″ high by 7.25″ diameter and retailed for US$99.

Welcome to Palm Springs Passport Holder and Luggage Tag Set
In August 2017, the Shag Store released the Welcome to Palm Springs Passport Holder and Luggage Tag Set. The passport holder measures 3.75″ by 5.5″ (folded) and the luggage tag measures 5″ by 2.5″ (without strap). The distressed leather passport holder and luggage tag is supplied boxed for US$99.
Palm Springs Icons Coasters
The Palm Springs Icons Coasters set of four with stand retails for US$39 and includes the Welcome to Palm Springs image. The coasters each measure 4″ by 4″ and are cork backed.

Welcome to Palm Springs Mosaic
Shag’s Welcome to Palm Springs print from 2011 was interpreted as a mosaic by Lanse Priebe in 2013. Lanse Priebe is a Los Angeles artist specializing in intricate mosaics. The tile mosaic is created by the direct method involving gluing individual tesserae onto a supporting board. The physical picture created by the mosaic is detailed with stunning colors that match the original print. 

Framed Welcome to Palm Springs Large Format Giclée
In June 2020 a large-format framed giclée on stretched canvas was released of the Welcome to Palm Springs image. Measuring an impressive 90” by 50” and limited to just 10 copies the print retailed for a (to be confirmed) $10,000 (for reference, the smaller 2018 large format giclée of The Refill retailed for $6,000). On this Shag Store framed picture, buyers had their choice of color for the fabric border.
