Red Star, Black Eye Exhibition

The Red Star, Black Eye Exhibition at the Rotofugi Gallery in Chicago, Illinois ran from February 19^th to March 14^th.
This solo exhibition took place during Josh Agle’s introspective period so has the darker, muted palette with huge digital landscape prints.

The two huge 72” by 36” archival digital print on canvas landscapes form a diptych that dominate the space in the Rotofugi Gallery. The two prints were available in hand signed and numbered limited editions of just five copies each. The left print is named I Will and the right print is called Black Eyes.

Seven original  8” by 8” acrylic paint on panel paintings were shown at the exhibition focusing in on small parts of the large diptych.

The first car in the Shag Racers series was released at the Red Star, Black Eye Exhibition as a gallery prototype edition of 100 pieces. The Shriner vinyl art figurine measures 7.25” long and 6.25” high, the release price was $75 USD and it quickly sold out. The Shriner figurine was manufactured by Squibbles Ink and Rotofugi and had three points of articulation (wrist and shoulder of beer arm plus neck/head).

The Shriners, now Shriners International, was established in 1870 as “a fraternity based on fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth”. It is an appendant body to Freemasonry and is best known for the Shriners Hospitals for Children, the red fezzes members wear, and their participation in local parades – often in miniature vehicles or dressed as an oriental band.

Twenty-seven limited edition prints were exhibited with the majority being rare artist proofs from Josh Agle’s personal store.
