This page is for all 2019 group art shows not covered under existing posts. This post will be updated throughout the year as new shows are announced and take place. The 2019 group art events are below listed in chronological order.

Sunrise Lanai Poolside Party & Twilight Architectural Tour with Host Shag
Modernism Week is an annual celebration of mid-century architecture, design, and culture at the Sunrise Lanai in Palm Springs, California. The Sunrise Lanai Poolside Party & Twilight Architectural Tour will take place from 5pm-8pm on Friday 23rd February 2019. There will be live music, cocktails and hors-d’oeuvres and tours hosted by Shag around Sunrise Lanai including visiting several mid-century modern condos. Tickets are US$100 each, for ages 12 and over, and are available from the Modernism Week ticketing page. The Shag Store in Palm Springs is also holding two events during Modernism Week – Shag’s Modernism Print Release Party and Shag’s Architectural Print Party (or at least that is how they are advertised on the Modernism Week website – actually they are standard print release parties).



Scope New York 2019
The Scope New York art fair ran from the 7th to the 10th March 2019 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York City. The Corey Helford Gallery exhibit at booth 9 included Shag’s acrylic on panel painting “The Invideist” (12” by 12”). The painting debuted a few months earlier at CHG’s Art Collector Starter Kit V in December 2018 – retailing at US$5,000.

Lexus RCF Track Edition Launch Event
Lexus commissioned a new print for the launch of it’s RCF track edition of the LC500 sports car in Palm Springs on Sunday 31st March 2019. A variant of the print will be produced at the Shag Store in Palm Springs later in 2019.

Within the Garden of Earthly Delights
The Outré Gallery in Melbourne presents Within The Garden of Earthly Delights from 5th-24th April. This group show of over 30 artists pays homage to Hieronymus Bosch’s most famous painting The Garden of Earthly Delights. Shag originally exhibited the eighteen-feet by five-feet The Garden of Earthly Delights triptych at Laguna Art Museum’s 2007 show The Flesh is Willing. It was produced in a limited edition of ten half-sized gicleés for this exhibition – 9 feet by 2.5 feet triptych size (3 feet by 2.5 feet for each individual canvas). The limited-edition triptych is titled Hell, Earth, Paradise.

Arizona Tiki Oasis 2019
Arizona Tiki Oasis (AZTO) is a spring sister event to the long-running Tiki Oasis held during September in San Diego. AZTO is held from 12th-14th April 2019 at mid-century Hotel Valley Ho in Old Town Scottsdale, Arizona. The Shag Store is a sponsor and market-place vendor with Shag’s work included in the art show. The artist reception is from 6-9pm on Thursday 11th April. The Shag pop up store is from 12 to 2pm on the Saturday with cocktails with Shag following in the evening from 6 to 8pm. Swizzle sticks are free to cocktail party attendees at Shag Suite 4216 at the Hotel Valley Ho. The event site is https://aztikioasis.com.

Tiki Caliente 11
The Tiki Caliente 11 event at the Caliente Tropics Resort in Palm Springs, California is held from the 16th to the 19th May 2019. A new serigraph is due to be released as the (final) fifth release in the Unthropology series depicting young women set in Polynesian Islands wearing traditional dress alongside traditional tiki carvings. The “Vehine Vai” unthropology print is released at Tiki Caliente in Palm Springs on May 18th at the Shag Store pop-up from 2pm-3pm in the hotel lobby. The three-color silkscreen print measures 8” by 10” and is produced in a limited edition of 100.

Summer Cocktails with Shag
The Jonathan Adler Store in West Hollywood, California held the Summer Cocktails with Shag event from 5pm to 8pm on Thursday 6th June 2019. The event included cocktails and canapes plus 20% off Jonathan Adler merchandise. The event was held at the Jonathan Adler Store at 8125 Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles and was free to enter.

On View: Selections from Recent Acquisitions in Memory of Greg Escalante
The exhibition “On View: Selections from Recent Acquisitions in Memory of Greg Escalante” was held from 10am to 7pm on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th June 2019 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. This special collection viewing included highlights from a large group of recent acquisitions made in memory of gallerist and art collector Greg Escalante. The exhibition was at the Study Centre for Photography and Works on Paper in the Art of the Americas building at LACMA and was free with museum admission. Several Shag prints were on show including the challenging“Home” and “Residence”.


The Gathering
Comic Con Museum in San Diego’s Balboa Park held a fundraising event on Wednesday 17th July titled The Gathering. The auction included a 60″ x 55″ stretched canvas giclee of Space Widows from a limited edition of just five with a value of $4000.

Comic-Con International 2019
The Comic-Con International event ran at the San Diego Convention Center in San Diego, California from the 18th to the 21st July 2018. The Shag Store exhibited on booth 3920 at the event where four Shag prints were released. Shag was also part of an artists panel called “Tiki Art in American Culture” on Saturday, July 20th at 11am in the Marriott Marquis halls Grand 10 and 11.

Big Kahuna Bash!
Grumpy’s Bar & Grill in Roseville Minnesota held the Big Kahuna Bash! on Saturday 27th July 2019 with Shag as the host. The Tiki Bash brought together an international collection of radical Polynesian pop artists, Tiki carvers and surf music from the UK, Hawaii, LA, Chicago and Milwaukee! The artist Haze Xxl (Thomas Hazelmyer) collaborated with Shag to produce twenty linocut prints. Shag painted the initial image on a linoleum block where Haze Xxl carefully carved it and then printed, mounted on a wood panel and framed twenty-four prints.

Shag also hand-painted ten masonite and acrylic paint masks. The masks measure 5” x 8” x .75” and are hand-signed on the back.

The Haunted Mansion: Celebrating 50 Years of Retirement Unliving
The Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland celebrated its 50th Anniversary in 2019. Disney held three after-hours “The Haunted Mansion: Celebrating 50 Years of Retirement Unliving” events on the 7th, 8th and 9th August 2019. The events featured commemorative anniversary merchandise, spirited sips and bites, special entertainment, character encounters, photograph opportunities, and access to several west-side park attractions. Shag produced the painting 31 Ghosts which was merchandised as only Disney can.

Tiki Oasis 2019
Tiki Oasis 2019 in San Diego opens at the Bali Hai on Wednesday 7th August and continues at the Crowne Plaza from Thursday 8th August to Sunday 11th August. This was to be the sixth and final release in the Unthropology series depicting young women set in Polynesian Islands wearing traditional dress alongside traditional tiki carvings, but the series instead finished on print five at Tiki Caliente. The exclusive print at the Shag Store pop-up at on Saturday, August 10th is Mr Tiki Head Hula which is a three-color signed limited edition of 99 prints. A Tiki Oasis 2019 Blowfish pin was also released at the event.

D23 Expo 2019
D23 Expo 2019 was held at the Anaheim Convention Center from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th August. Shag designed a range of merchandise for the event.

The Madame Leota Crossbody Bag was released at the event. The Harveys bag was designed by Shag and has a diameter of 11” and an adjustable removable strap. The bag can be pre-purchased through the Dream Store website if you have a Sorcerer package, costs US$175, and is limited to one per person. Additionally, the Enchanted Tiki Room Mouse Ears were released at the event.

The D23 Expo also released two additional formats for Shag’s 31 Ghosts print, a 44″x17″ D23 Specific Format framed print in a limited edition of 25 for $695, and a 20″x16″ Panorama Deluxe Print in a limited edition of 100 for $55. The prints can also be pre-purchased through the Dream Store website if you have a Sorcerer package.

Shag is attending D23 for a Disney Parks Designer Collection artist signing from 2pm to 3:30pm on Saturday, August 24th.



The Art of Shag
The Art of Shag is a new exhibition at the Comic-Con Museum in San Diego held from 8am until 4pm on Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd September and Saturday 28th to Sunday 29th of September. The event was extended until 6th December. This event included prints, sold out items, future projects, and potentially a Shag pop-up store. A ticketed fundraising event is from 6:30pm to 9pm on Friday 20th September. This limited ticket opening event hosted by Shag has each participant receiving a signed Shag print. The 26″ by 18″ hand-signed and numbered giclée print is named The Thrilling Threesome Plus One and is made in a limited edition of 175.




Tiki Tiki Tiki NIght
The Tiki Tiki Tiki Night event is on Friday 27th September from 6-10pm at The Walt Disney Family Museum at 104 Montgomery Street, San Francisco, California. The collaboration with Tiki Oasis is a special evening celebrating Tiki and Disney. Shag is present along with food from Taste Catering, cocktails from Smuggler’s Cover, music from DJ Otto von Stroheim and presentations from Smuggler’s Cove Martin Cate and Walt Disney Archives’ Kevin Kern.
Guests receive an exclusive, signed print designed by Shag celebrating the museum’s 10th anniversary. Ticket holders received the 8″ x 10″ 3-color serigraph Walt and José, released in a limited edition of 275, hand-signed and numbered by Shag.

Behind the Scenes of Celebrating the Musicals Live
The Behind the Scenese of Celebrating the Musicals Live event was held in room 403A t the Los Angeles Comic-Con conference at 14:30 on Saturday 13th October, 2019. The panel was hosted by director and producer Richard Kraft and discussed his live musicals at the Hollywood Bowl including Nightmare Before Christmas, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, La La Land, and The Little Mermaid. The panel included Shag, musical director Jeff Hoeppner (Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory at the Hollywood Bowl), executive event producer John Kinsner (Rocketman: Live in Concert), associate event producer Melissa Axel, and Mousetrappe media director Ryan Kravetz.

Circa Caliente
The Shag Store pop-up at the Circa Caliente event from October 17th-20th included the release of Mr. Tiki Head at Shag’s Pad. This three-color silkscreen print measures 8” x 10”, was limited to 99 pieces, and sold for $149.

Ava, Ava
La Fiambrera Art Gallery in Madrid, Spain is holding the Ava, Ava exhibition from October 25th 2019 to January 19th 2020. The launch party for the solo exhibition of Shag’s work is on Friday October 25th from 7pm where Shag will be present to sign purchases. The six new original paintings that make up the exhibition commemorate the fifteen years in which Ava lived in Spain. The exhibition also features twenty recent artist proof prints.

“The paintings in “Ava, Ava” are inspired by the life of actress Ava Gardner in Spain in the late 50s and early 60s, after her breakup with Frank Sinatra. Ava’s stellar power and explosive behavior stood out in Franco’s repressive regime as a lonely bulb in an attic. Almost all of Ava’s photos in those years are in black and white, and the paintings in this exhibition want to portray that by making minimal use of color, which is a certain change with my usual work.” – Shag

New and Rare Print Exhibition
The Outré Gallery in Melbourne, Australia is holding a Print Show & Exclusive Print Release from 15th November to the 3rd December 2019. This solo show of Shag’s prints includes two new prints. Collins St, 5pm is a 27.5″ by 20″, 16-color serigraph produced in a limited edition of 200 for $299. The original painting was in the 2006 On the Shoulders of Giants Exhibition. The second print is Still Life With Corkscrew, a 8″ by 10″, 4-color serigraph produced in a limited edition of 100 for $99.

DesignerCon 2019
DesignerCon is an annual art and design convention held at Anaheim Convention Center in California from 22nd to 24th November 2019. The Shag Store is exhibiting at the event. The Skeleton Squad are six prints on canvas released at the event and consists of three 5″x9″ and three 5″x7″. The limited edition prints are signed and numbered in a limited edition of 100. If you buy the set then you get the mini-serigraph “Cosmic Kitten” for free. Additionally, four outer space mini-prints on wood (6″x6″): Cosmic Cocktail, The Late Arrival, The Majestic Moon and Intergalactic Moai were released (framed or unframed) in a limited edition of 200 each.

Malas, Muy Malas
The Malas, Muy Malas (bad, my bad) exhibition at the La Fiambrera exhibition in Spain examined the essence of evil in the female form. The gallery celebrated its fifth anniversary with this traditional annual group show celebrating the bad girl. The event ran from the 29 November 2019 to 2 February 2020. Shag’s contribution to the exhibition was The Fur Afficionado.

The Art Collector Starter Kit VI
The sixth “annual” Art Collector Starter Kit Group Exhibition at CHG opens 7-11pm on Saturday, December 14th 2019 and continues until January 18th. Artworks from over one hundred artists are exhibited, each one an original 12” by 12” piece, priced for new collectors. Shag contributed the acrylic on panel framed painting Gray Matter which measures 12″ x 12″ (18″ x 18″ framed) and costs $5,000.
