Goin’ Places Toy Release and Art Exhibit

The Goin’ Places Toy Release and Art Exhibit was a solo exhibition for Josh Agle at the Rotofugi Gallery in Chicago, Illinois from December 7^th 2012 to January 6^th 2013. The exhibition included a dozen original drawings of classic cars being driven by skeletons in addition to a strong selection of artist proofs and a pre-order for the Skull Boy toy.

Shag attended the opening reception in the evening of Friday 7^th December 2012 from 7pm to 10pm. Snacks were provided by Sweet Myrtille and the music from Rotofugi resident DJ Sean Doe.

The Goin’ Places Exhibition included twelve original 14” by 9” drawings of classic cars being driven by skeletons. Josh Agle produced the images using India ink with synthetic polymer paint on archival watercolor paper.

The exhibition included twenty limited-edition serigraph prints, nearly all of which being artist proofs (AP) or printer proofs (PP). These hand-pulled prints were mainly from previously sold out editions, with the rare proofs being made available for purchase at this show.

Shag collaborated with Squibbles Ink and Rotofugi to create Skull Boy, the second toy in the Shag Racers series. The gallery prototype edition was created in a limited-edition of 100 pieces and was available for pre-order to attendees of the Goin’ Places show. Any remaining pieces were to be made available via the Rotofugi website from the 10^th November. The Skull Boy toy was priced at $90 USD.

The skeleton figure was sculpted by Shinbone Creative, a company that focuses on digital illustration, character design, and designer toys. The car was sculpted by Joe Somers, owner of Squibbles Ink, a Chicago-based product design and development company. The designer toy was released through Rotofugi, a designer toy store and gallery in Chicago. Skull Boy measures 7.25” long by 6.5” tall.
